“
If you want her to stay near you, but fly as she should,
you must not brush the dust off her magical wings,
nor control her essence in your hand…
her beauty will be held only by a stillness and purity of heart.”
~Andrew Hawkes
I Thought This A Hoot!
I had carried with me a small volume of selected essays and poems of Emerson to kill time while waiting on the Doctor recently. The book was published in 1926 and so I presume this tiny clipping found within from a Newark, Delaware newspaper may be nearly as old. What I found striking was the obviously unfortunate juxtaposition between name and service rendered.
Of course there is no need to fear, if that puts you off a bit, you can always go to the shop in the ad above Mrs. Roach’s, where not only do they serve ice cream, but “temperance drinks” as well. It’s a good life!
Blessings of your choosing, David

Long Face is a plaster and wire fantasy mask measuring 20″ tall by 10″ at it’s widest. He was one of my first full sized masks and actually hung in the gable of my past Florida home for several years. Due to the layering of plaster and acrylic he seems to weather well. We recently mounted him in a recycled cedar fence board frame on a richly textured fabric. The overall piece measures 19″ wide by 29-1/4″ tall.
Image, mask creation, and comission pricing available upon request.
